Opportunities come in more ways than just asset purchases through the Opportunity Passport™ program. For 24-year-old Romonia Dixon, her opportunity comes in the form of help launching her start-up business to assist non-profit organizations to increase their fundraising capacity. Helping those in need isn’t new to Romonia. As a young person, she experienced homelessness and later found help through several community based organizations. Now, Romonia wants to return the help and make an even bigger impact.
After working with a local nonprofit struggling to collect silent auction items for their annual fundraiser, Romonia envisioned a better way — what she calls the “Google” of silent auction items. Her concept is to create a web based platform where organizations can “work together and not compete,” to trade items across the nation to later auction for charity.
With the help of Opportunity Passport™, Romonia was able to use her match money to participate in an entrepreneurship program through Seed Spot, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting ideas like hers. “Charity Auction Trade,” Romonia’s new business, is expected to launch in spring of 2018. She looks forward to ultimately making the world a better place and is grateful for all of the support she received through the Opportunity Passport™ program.
